Celebrating Our 88th Year

Eighty-five years ago, in 1920, the first Christmas Shop was held in the downtown Wilmington Delaware. The Shop was established by The Woman's Club of Trinity Church as a fund raising event to benefit the Wilmington community at large. The first of its kind, The Christmas Shop has served as a model for many other similar shops throughout the United States.

For the first three years, the Christmas Shop was held in the showroom of the Wilmington Auto Company, which was later replaced by the present Nemours Building of the DuPont Company. In 1924, The Shop moved its location to the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel du Pont and subsequently, in 1983, to the DuPont Country Club. The Christmas Shop was incorporated in 1952 and in 1983, The Shop became a community organization independent of the Trinity Church.

In 2003, The Christmas Shop established itself as The Christmas Shop Foundation and named the event "The Perfect Gift". The Foundation decided to update its image in order to clarify what the organization has long been doing - providing an opportunity to purchase unique items while supporting worthwhile non-profit organizations. As an independent volunteer organization, The Christmas Shop Foundation is committed to improving the Delaware community by raising funds for a variety of nonprofit programs that enrich lives and help people in need.
